Xavier Bertrand was born in Chalons-sur-Marne today Chalons-en-Champagne. He graduated in law at the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne, and then in local governments. In 1992, Xavier Bertrand became insurance agent, in parallel to his political activities. Committed at the age of sixteen years in politics, with the RPR, he became a devotee of the UMP and Nicolas Sarkozy, becoming minister several times the five year period. He was re-elected in the Aisne in 2012. He has positioned himself as candidate for the primary line for the 2017 presidential election but invested by Republicans as the list for the regional in the new territory of Nord-Pas de-Calais-Picardy, he promised that he would abandon his presidential ambitions if he was elected
head of the region. He won the election by defeating Le Pen in the second round (57.76% against 42.24%).
