Member of the European Parliament for five terms between 1994 and 2019, Françoise Grossetête is a law graduate from the University of Lyon. She started her career as a university teacher before being elected at local level, first as deputy Mayor of Saint-Etienne (1983-2008) and then as President of the Pilat Natural Park (1989-2008).
In the European Parliament, she was elected Vice-President of the EPP Group in 2014, a position she held already before, between 1999 and 2007. Françoise Grossetête sat in the committees for the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, and Research, Industry and Energy. With a strong focus on health policies, she has carried through Parliament a number of legislations related to pharmaceuticals and healthcare.
A former Regional counsellor for Rhône-Alpes, she was also member of the Political Bureau of Les Républicains.
