Originally from Nice, Professor Olivier Guerin was appointed Professor of Medicine in 2011 and became Head of the Acute and Therapeutic Geriatrics Department in 2013. Since 2015, he has led the Rehabilitation, Autonomy and Ageing (RAV) Division, where he now serves as Deputy Head.
A committed advocate for the integration of digital technologies in health and autonomy, he has led the development of dedicated platforms for evaluation and experimentation in this field, grounded in a comprehensive medico-psycho-social approach.
From April 2014 to June 2020, he also served as Deputy Mayor of Nice, in charge of Health, Prevention, and Autonomy, as well as a member of the Metropolitan Council.
At the national level, Professor Olivier Guerin has played a key role in advancing geriatrics and gerontology in France. He served as President of the French Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology (SFGG) from 2018 to 2021 and currently chairs the French National Professional Council for Geriatrics (CNP-SG). His work focuses on addressing the challenges posed by demographic transition and adapting the healthcare system to meet the evolving needs of older adults.
He is also actively involved in ageing biology research alongside Professor Eric Gilson at the Institute for Research on Cancer and Ageing of Nice (IRCAN – a joint research center of Université Côte d’Azur, INSERM, and CNRS).
In February 2021, he was appointed a member of the COVID-19 Scientific Council reporting to the President of the French Republic, a role he held until July 2022.
Professor Olivier Guerin also serves as Vice President and Chair of the Scientific and Ethics Board of Future4Care, and is a qualified expert on the High Council for Family, Childhood, and Age (HCFEA).
He is part of the think tank Le Cercle Asclépios.
