    Jean-François Rapin is a French senator representing Pas-de-Calais since 2016 and a practising general practitioner. He has chaired the Senate’s Committee on European Affairs since 2020 and was re-elected to the role in 2023. A long-time advocate for coastal and maritime policy, he served as Mayor of Merlimont from 2001 to 2016. He has also held regional office in Nord–Pas-de-Calais and later Hauts-de-France. Since 2020, he has presided over the Hauts-de-France Sea Parliament. From 2012 to 2022, he led the National Association of Coastal Elected Officials (ANEL). His parliamentary work includes past roles on the finance and sustainable development committees. Rapin also chaired the Manche–North Sea Coastal Council and served as vice-president of the Picardy Marine Natural Park. His career reflects a deep commitment to regional development and European cooperation.
