Born in 1950 in Caen. PhD in Philosophy, Doctor of Political Science, Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at Sorbonne-University. Former director of the "Connected Health" research center at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) Institute of Communication Sciences. Member of the Centre de Recherche en Epistémologie Appliquée at the Ecole Polytechnique (until 2015), focusing on cognitive sciences. Member of the CNRS Ethics Committee and of the INRA-IFREMER Ethics Committee (for 8 years). Specialist in issues related to transhumanism and augmented humans. Former Scientific Director in charge of the Science and Society sector of the Science and Innovation Directorate (DGRI) of the French Ministry of Research (from 2008 to 2012). Member of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Advanced Studies for Science and Technology (IHEST). Currently involved in a CNRS research group "Internet and Society" aiming at evaluating the transformation of doctor-patient relationships due to connected objects (the case of sleep apnea, with the Sleep Center of the Bichat Hospital).
Significant publishing work: articles, books and collection management (La Découverte, Hatier and Le Pommier publishing houses). President of the Scientific and Technical Literature Commission of the National Book Center (CNL) until 2021. Long-time columnist for Sciences et Avenir. Member of the editorial boards of the publications Hermès, Raison Présente and Histoire de la Recherche contemporaine of the CNRS.
