Jared Watkin is the senior vice president of Diabetes Care, Abbott, which entails leading the company's global diabetes care business. Previously, Mr. Watkin was the divisional vice president of Technical Operations at Diabetes Care, Abbott, where he led the research and development and clinical research. He joined Abbott as part of the MediSense acquisition in 1996 and was responsible for the development of Abbott’s current Precision glucose and ketones biosensors.

He joined MediSense (UK) in 1989 as an R&D scientist, working in a variety of roles of increasing responsibility in diabetes test strip development, before moving to Boston, MA, in 2001. During his time in Boston, Mr. Watkin became Research Director before returning to the UK in 2003 to take up the role of Director of R&D and Technical Services. In 2005, Mr. Watkin moved to Alameda, CA, where he assumed the role of Senior R&D Venture Director responsible for ADC’s Navigator Continuous Glucose Monitoring products. In 2008, Mr. Watkin became Divisional Vice President, R&D, Intensive Diabetes Management, responsible for ADC’s Insulin Delivery and Continuous Monitoring programs. Mr. Watkin joined MediSense from ICI Pharmaceuticals (now Astra Zeneca) where he worked on linking recombinant cytotoxins to monoclonal antibodies for anti-cancer drug development.

Mr. Watkin earned his bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from The University College of Wales in the UK.
