Isabelle Laffont is Dean of the Montpellier-Nîmes Faculty of Medicine. She is a University Professor and Hospital Practitioner in Physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) at the Montpellier University Hospital. Her research focuses on motor control of the upper limb and on the brain plasticity mechanisms underlying neurological recovery after stroke. She has also been working on the use of digital technology and robotics in the field of rehabilitation. She is the author of more than 130 scientific articles published in English and of several didactic books in the field of PRM.
She has been President of the Scientific Society of PM&R for 3 years and Secretary General of the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine - ISPRM since 2020. She was a member of the board of directors of the Federative research institute on disability – IFRH at INSERM for 5 years.
In her current position, she defends the idea that faculties of medicine or health are a major instrument for transforming the health system, that they have to become a university melting pot for training in the health professions and that they have to promote the deployment of health training and research in the territories in close collaboration with other actors.
