A doctor of medicine and human biology, Lionel Collet was appointed university professor and hospital practitioner in 1992. Director of a laboratory at the CNRS, he then became president of the Claude-Bernard Lyon-I University, as well as President of the Conference of University Presidents.
From 2012 to 2013, he was chief of staff to the Minister of Higher Education and Research before being appointed State Counselor. He became special advisor to the Minister of Solidarity and Health after coordinating the strategic council on health industries (CSIS) from 2015 to 2017.
President of the National Council for Periodic Certification as of December 2021, he was appointed President of the French National Authority for Health (HAS) in April 2023.
