Professor Alain Bernard, a thoracic and cardiovascular surgeon, was head of the heart-lung-vessel unit at Dijon University Hospital from 2011 to 2021.
For over 20 years, he has been involved in health technology assessment at the French health products safety agency – AFSSAPS and then at the French National Authority for Health – HAS, where he was Vice-president of the commission that evaluates medical devices until 2013.
For the past 10 years, he has chaired the jury of the French Ministry of Health's Medico-economic research program.
Finally, for the past year he has been Chairman of the Regional committee for better pertinence of care for the Bourgogne-Franche Comté region.
For several years now, he has been working on measuring the quality of care using the French database medicalization program – PMSI. This work has led to several publications on pancreas, liver, lung, heart and carotid surgery.
